I tried it and it definitly works. It's pretty hard to get it out because the grinds seem to clog the filter. Sadly the top of the frech press gets a little dirty because the glas body moves around quiet a bit because it is not fixed the the frame. So if I would use this technique regularly Ibwould find myself shopping for another frech press that has a different shape than mine.
There exists a french press on the market, that is made to apply paper filters. It's from the company ESPRO. There are several versions of the Espro Press from P0 to P5 and P7. They are pretty expensive but work really nice. It has two very fine mesh filters and on top you can buy paper filters. It's my favourite way to get a french press without that muddy, cloudy taste. I own a nice double walled in stainless steel and just waiting for the travel version to arrive.
Nice idea though. I tried to apply a paper filter to a regular frech press but it did not work until now. Thumbs up for your videos.

This technique was amazing, it made the best coffee I had ever tasted from a French press. Amazing floral and syrupy texture from Ethiopian bean, 480 micron grind size and 10 min brew time. Then I just pull and lift the grounds out of the coffee liquid. Only problem is that the cleaning is terrible cause thereโs no way to tap out the grinds as they get stuck inside the spring..๐ข

I've been trying various techniques in the past to filter French press, like brewing normally and pouring into a carafe through a V60 filter, or putting a Kalita filter in the bottom and pushing the metal filter/plunger down over it. But they all have the problem of choking and clogging. This looks like a brilliant idea! I'm going to try it out tomorrow morning!

In the really old days in London these presses were often used with a muslin cloth where you used a filter paper. My great aunt told me they weren't popular in the restaurant with the girls because they were such a faff. Having seen this film I can see what they meant. Thanks for the reminder of a dear old lady.
