I remember when I started I felt so embarrassed, stupid, and irrelevant. After a few days I almost deleted it and pretended it never happened.

I was afraid of what people would think of me, I was afraid of what my relatives would think but then it clicked.

I wasn’t making this page for them, for strangers, or anyone else but me. I made this page for an escape, a hobby and place to talk about books without judgement.

As I settled into this thought process I found myself again. I found friendships I wanted my entire life, I found my voice, I found the joy again.

Books saved me.
Books pushed me to make this page.
Books helped me find my people.
Books helped me find my passion again.

Books brought me you.

So if you want to make a page?
DO IT.

And do it how YOU want to do it.

No aesthetic required, only do it if it brings you joy.

You don’t have to read main stream books to be on here.

There is no one way to have a bookstagram, make it yours and come join a community of people who love to read.

Some pointers I wish I knew starting:

Read what you want, when you want and how you want

Protect your peace. You do not have to follow everyone who follows you, you do not have to tolerate poor behavior. Boundaries baby, use that unfollow and block button. You start this page for you.

Have your opinions but read the room, and if you see a post gushing about a book you hated? Scroll don’t comment, you don’t get points for ruining people’s joy. On that same breath, again see look above, block button baby if someone is doing this to you.

-You do not need special editions, pristine books, props or staging to be relevant. You don’t, I use a bed sheet and my phone and nothing has changed. I collect the books I want and nothing more now.
