The southern part of the Philippines (Mindanao) was not Islam dominated as what was shown here, the Islamic strongholds were only at some areas in Eastern Mindanao as approximately 4/5 of the Island is either practicing their folk religion or hinduism.

One of the reasons why Islam failed to spread in Mindanao was because Tribes of hindu, buddhist and animist origin had alliances to counter the islamic expansion of both Sultanate of Brunei and Sulu.

budism and hinduism didnt affect that much specially in the mountains of luzon and the islands of visayas where until today some tribes still retain their beliefs also the muslims were minority in the south cuz the datu's or sultans had different belieafs, they still glorify like the sun, moon and, nature. but when the europeans arrived thats where the religions became far more spread out.

Correction, Philippines was not settled by outsiders. We were the osriginal people. We settled the pacific islands including taiwan. Philippines is an ancient archipelego, we were advanced in seafearing even before anyone in asia had knowledge of navigation
