I haven't lost any fish in my reef I have a 15 year old hippo Tang in my tank and I've had my yellow tang for about nine years and he's still kicking no sterilizer just basic tank maintenance but I do have a quarantine tank just in case and all my new fish get quarantine

You dont mention anything about the standard aquarium? Thats how i started reefing, in just a standard 10 gallon tank with a hang on back filter and heater in the tank. Its simple, cheap and has been running for years. . . Yeah sumps and AIO chambers are cool and i love my sump systems but a new hobbyist shouldnt just start with that stuff. Learn to walk before you can run, keeping it simple and easy is key in the beginning.
I see so many new hobbiests get stuck in this trap. Spend thousands of dollars on ridiculous lighting and testers. To see them fail and leave the hobby forever in less then a year! When in reality its all about the BASICS. Get a tank, light, filter heater. Is it the prettiest?? No its not but its a thriving aquarium with cool animals thats we can observe in our own home. I think we take that for granted and focus on the look of the tank, or the sound of the water Compromising basic needs for a new thing that can possibly fail on you.
Yes i might be an ass. But we can't juat say this is the only way to run a reef aquarium.
