📚 A lot of language learning resources make false promises like ”Get to B2 after completing this book!” The truth is that the brain needs MASSIVE quantities of input (listening and reading content) to get used to a language. One book or course will NEVER be enough. You need to read and listen widely so your brain can acquire vocabulary and make sense of the underlying patterns. Fortunately, modern technology is moving language learning forward, unlocking all the input we could ever want

100% accurate Steve. The brain needs massive amounts of input to form its own rules - that's how I learned my 2nd and 3rd language. Possibly my 1st too. Thank you Steve

“The brain needs massive amount of input.”

Very simple and profoundly accurate statement. Must remember to write it down.

He’s right. I completed the Babbel German course that goes to a B2 level. I was still only A2 (if that) at the end. These courses that claim to take you to a B2 level can be used as an introduction and then you go on and use podcasts, LingQ etc go learn the language properly. I do wonder if it’s possible to just leap in to a resource such as LingQ without any prior knowledge of the language. Anyone here done just that? I wonder if Steve considers the Babbel et al courses to be of any use?

Immersion only works with context for example if you don’t know any vocabulary it’s just going to sound like jibberish however with vocab you can string together words.

Being a self-learner means having a difficulty to look for a good quality to learn grammar and vocabulary. And I don't know where to start; what should I learn.
