The same machines that were deemed failures when they were released ended up being some of the most legendary and influential instruments in the genre.

Acid house went hard all over Chicago in the 80’s. It was different than the house tracks that were pretty much just 70’s dance music and italio disco. It was truly its own thing.

The noise music and industrial scenes of the 70s and 80s were also big in pushing this kind of music. Alot of music that also isnt mainstream at all so most people forget about them, but they were using and in many cases building this equipment.

As a 1990 baby i grew up to techno on my own accord the librarian in my city suggested some genres as a young boy i wasnt sure. So i got home popped in the tape and fell in love from then its beena real journey Above and Beyond saved my life when i was at my lowest as i kid i somewhat knew trance techno acid house n industrial came from the 80s grew in the 90s by the 2000s intrumentals werw fading and vocals became the main trend hence where we are today. As a 34yr man i can say ill be groovin till im dead.

I got a Roland TR 606 drum machine for like $200 on eBay like 20 years ago and it was a major steal. It has the same exact sounds as an 808 for kick drum, snare, hi hat and i treasure it. WAY cheaper than an 808.

Every great innovation story starts with “So one day me and Spanky…”
Ever notice that???
Well, here’s to the Spanky’s of the world!

Acid house was big when I was in high school in the 90s. There was a radio station here in Los Angeles called groove radio that only played this type of music.

Roland was responsible for SOOO much great music. Personally as a gamer I think of the MT-32 used back in the day in PCs. Midi music sounded amazing for games like Secret of Monkey Island

The late 80s and early 90s in Chi were the best times of my life. Raves are dead now so I feel fortunate to have experienced them with the map points and random warehouses. Now they are just Rave-like concerts like BM crowded with yuppies and zero vibe.

Charanjit Singh's 'Ten Ragas To A Disco Beat' was originally made in 1982 on Jupiter 8, 808, and 303.
