It's worse than that. Some states treat testing kits as contraband. It is criminal to try to be safe.

In the UK there is free testing at most major festivals. This also helps them quickly identify anything dangerous that's circulating on the site, so they can warn the kids in time.

Totally agree, but we can’t have this convo without also asking for free and accessible detox/rehab and mental healthcare. The best way to keep users safe is helping them get clean with as little friction as possible - ex addict.

As a Spaniard, I will say that, while we do have some progressive policies like these, we have plenty of backwards policies and ideologies, as well as a far-right parties problem, like everywhere else. I know that I sound as a case of "the grass always seems greener...", but don't take us like some kind of socio-capitalist utopia.

There's some interesting things happening at the federal level concerning harm reduction, but we're a ways off from this. In the meanwhile, US citizens should utilize nonprofits, like dancesafe and punk rock saves lives. There is some great stuff happening at a grassroots level. Stay safe, kids <3

Harm reduction saves lives. We are never going to stop people from using, what we can do is keep them alive long enough to get clean.

My state has billboards up, they recently (July 1) started having Fentanyl test strips available online. And I’m in a deep red state, I was pleasantly surprised but we’ve been very impacted by the opioid crisis so I’m glad the state is finally doing something. Narcan is also available, & treatment resources for those trying to quit.

Where's the money in that? How will this make US corporations richer?

Legalization, regulation/clean supply, and education. That is the answer. Then, make rehabilitation encouraged and easily accessible for those with addiction. Criminalization kills and ruins lives.

A little off-topic, but price gouging of pharmaceutical drugs already makes no sense to me; if you as a company charge medications so much that many potential customers can't afford them, then how are you going to make money off those medications in the long-term with only the wealthy top percentage of the population being able to afford them? Personally, I feel the federal government needs to have some form of price control to ensure that we don't pay an absurd amount for prescriptions compared to other developed countries. If a bottle of pills in say Germany costs $6.00, that same bottle of pills shouldn't cost more then 50% extra here in the U.S., which would be $9.00 in this case. I'm not saying pharmaceutical companies don't deserve to make profit for their research & development, but they shouldn't be able to charge insane prices for their life saving products that most uninsured Americans can't afford.

making drugs safer is a bandaid on a bigger problem of people having drug readily available for cities to consume.

oh really? you're saying... drug testing is safer than... just blindly trusting shady illegal drugs..? why isn't this the norm worldwide? decriminalize that shit and teach people to be careful and responsible with their drugs.
