Shroud Making Workshop with Michele Elliot
Location: Conjola Cemetery & Wandandian Community Hall
Join us for a day of cloth and conversation with Michele Elliot in our contemplative and practical Shroud Making Workshop. This unique event offers an opportunity to explore the tradition of shroud-making, a meaningful practice in caring for the deceased.
Event Highlights:
Reflective Exercises: We will begin the day with a visit to Conjola Cemetery for some reflective exercises in observation, providing a quiet moment to connect with the space and our intentions.
Workshop Location: Following the cemetery visit, we’ll proceed to the Wandandian Community Hall for morning tea and the start of our workshop.
Guided Discussions: Engage in supported discussions and reflections around end-of-life care, grief, celebration, and the significance of 'going-away' outfits.
Practical Shroud Making: Michele will guide you through the planning and design of a simple shroud using natural materials. You will receive hands-on sewing instruction, tips for embellishments and embroidery, and practical advice.
Personal Projects: Whether you wish to make your own shroud or one for a loved one or pet, this workshop supports you in creating a bespoke cloth with intention and care.
