Hubby lost a tooth (eventually) to hard overcooked bacon on pizza. Broke the tooth in college but it was pulled five years of pain later (no insurance til then).

Incorrect use of the forceps. This is not how forceps are designed to be used.

The forceps blades should be passed down the periodontium between the root and bone thus expanding the socket.

Had that have been a real life situation (which this wasn’t) and in a patient with otherwise good periodontal health with good bone height doing what they did in this way would have almost inevitably resulted in the crown of the tooth shattering. This could have then turned a relatively simple and easy extraction into something more difficult.

An olive stone did that to mine. Got a root canal on it, suffered with it for the next 4 years, then it had to be pulled anyway. My advice is don't bother - just get it pulled.
