Going to Pearl Harbor and being able to see the very deck on USS Missouri where the peace deal ending WW2 was signed, while you stand over the remains of Arizona is truly an unbelievable experience. I highly recommend it for any American history buffs.

If I’m not mistaken it was during the Korean War when uss Wisconsin was hit by a Korean artillery shell following which the ships crew proceeded to erase not only the artillery battery group but also the damn hillside it was on got erased just one word of advice NEVER PICK A FIGHT WITH BATTLESHIP WISCONSIN 😂😂

Biggest hurdle on bringing them back is the power plant in them. They’re just too worn out and to replace them would be ridiculously expensive

There was a concept in the mid-50’s to remove the rear turret and build a large helicopter hanger on the stern. It could have worked. The idea was that the converted battleships would be able to support amphibious ops much closer to land than traditional Carrier due to their heavy armor.
For instance, you could have parked one 20 miles off the coast of North Vietnam and there wouldn’t have been much the NVAN could do about it. That would have cut 80-100 miles off of helicopter trips and helped in SAR. The refit cost was deemed too high however.

If we are talking about the best battleship, a battleship that went in harms way, got damaged from guns fire and mines, had it's barells replaced multiple times servers multiple wars and had it's own mind. A battleship that gladly went up against several other battleships, cruisers and destroyers alone or with it's escort. A battleship that did what a battleship was built to do. There is only one battleship on that list and that is HMS Warspite.
And I am not even British and I know that much

Even the curator for the USS New Jersey museum said it would be cheaper to make a new BB from scratch than reactivate one. Some gun breeches are plugged/cut, some turrets are welded, all of the high power wiring inside is old or gone, the entire steam system needs a full overhaul, minor undocumented modifications made by the musems would have to be reverted etc
