100%
My mom used to say "just splash water on your face in the morning." Turned out I needed antibiotics, actually.

Acutane was the only thing that cured mine, but only do it as a last resort thing. I’ve had friends who’ve developed depression while on it. If you only have a few breakouts, don’t do it. I had cystic acne all over my face and it’s the only reason my dermatologist prescribed it.

NO FR! The unsolicited advice about it is so insane. Can we unnormalized that?? I’ve tried literally everything in the book, it’s just how my skin is

“Just love yourself” ok but it’s physically painful too, like, it’s not just a beauty thing 😭

Plot twist: you have PCOS and go through everything described and go on a hormonal treatment but still don't escape it

the biggest problem with acne from someone who used to have it really bad- it’s not just about looks or even self confidence. it’s also about the pain and soreness under the skin

I hate when people are like "just love yourself" because for me the problem isn't even insecurity, it's that it hurts. Loving myself no matter how I look isn't going to make acne suddenly stop hurting

Theres a difference between loving yourself as you are and acne actually being a painful condition

"Have you tried washing your face?" Ugh. I HATE that so much! I tried so many, many cures, including prescription medications. The thing that finally cleared my face up was time. By age 35, I was pretty much acne-free. So yeah, just wait until you're old. 😂

And everyone always acknowledges your physical appearance when it comes to acne, but almost no one acknowledges that acne can be super painful.

“Just eat no carbs or sugar or fat or fruit or calories and drink 5L of water a day alongside completing this 27 step skincare routine every morning and night” yes I don’t want clear skin nearly as much as you think I want it

The thing that has helped me so far are pimple patches. They don’t fully remove them, but they make them hurt less, so I’ll touch them less, which results in less scars. Oh, and also accepting that they are unfortunately part of life

MCAD. I was reacting to the literal warm water and like every single product I ever tried. Even stuff that was prescribed. My acne literally got better whenever I stopped trying to do ANYTHING skincare wise. But then adults would be ABSOLUTELY SHOCKED I wasn't washing my face/doing X acne treatment/etc, and off I'd go restarting with a different product, trying to follow instructions and "take care of yourself," cause "you NEED to wash your face."

I finally got to the point where the cycle had repeated SO SO many times that I literally couldn't imagine having a better outcome doing ANY "skincare" whatsoever than leaving my face tf alone. At all.

I finally decided there was probably some reason why my face couldn't handle anything that literally everyone around me could use, and gave up.

And like 20 years later got a diagnosis explaining why (about 10 years of which I was specifically attending doctors demanding answers for all of the vast variety of multisystem super super weirdly specific reactions all over I was getting, and (looking back) literally presenting symptoms one after the other after the other in the same paragraph that SHOULD have been someone's "Aha" moment. 🙄 Oh well, at least someone finally knew what it was. FINALLY.

It is pretty insane what us folks will do to ourselves in the name of perfection and beauty.
