Surah Al-Duha (Arabic: الضحى), which means "The Morning Light," is the 93rd chapter of the Qur'an. It consists of 11 verses (ayat) and was revealed in Makkah. This surah is often associated with a time when the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) faced a period of apparent silence from Allah, leading to feelings of isolation and doubt. It was revealed to console and reassure him of Allah’s continued care and support.
Translation and Explanation:
By the morning brightness,
(This refers to the bright, radiant light of the morning, signifying new beginnings and hope.)
And by the night when it covers with darkness,
(This speaks of the peaceful, quiet time of the night, which contrasts the busy brightness of the day.)
Your Lord has not taken leave of you, nor has He detested [you].
(This verse reassures the Prophet that Allah has not abandoned him, even though there was a pause in the revelations.)
And the Hereafter is better for you than the first [life].
(The ultimate reward and success in the Hereafter will far exceed any hardships or struggles in this life.)
And your Lord is going to give you, and you will be satisfied.
(Allah promises the Prophet that He will give him a reward so great that it will bring him complete satisfaction.)
Did He not find you an orphan and give [you] refuge?
(This refers to the early life of the Prophet, where he was an orphan, and Allah protected and cared for him.)
And He found you lost and guided [you],
(Before the Prophet received revelation, he was not aware of his true purpose; Allah guided him to the right path.)
And He found you poor and made [you] self-sufficient.
(Allah provided the Prophet with sustenance and support when he was in need.)
So as for the orphan, do not oppress [him].
(A reminder to treat orphans with kindness and respect, as Allah has shown mercy to the Prophet.)
And as for the petitioner, do not repel [him].
(Encouragement to assist those who ask for help and not to turn them away harshly.)
And as for the favor of your Lord, report it.
(This emphasizes being grateful for Allah’s blessings and sharing them with others to inspire gratitude.)
