He took creatures that people called monsters or pests and showed us how beautiful and special they are. He was excited and full of wonder but also respectful. These were living things that he loved so much and he gave us all that love. I picture him in Heaven taking care of all those animals lost to the wild fires and human cruelty.

There's this wonderful clip where he's filming a kids TV segment with an olive python. He explains how the snake won't bite him, but the snake is a bit of a comedian and so it immediately bites his neck. The TV host is freaked but Irwin stays totally chill as he casually unwraps the snake and gets it to let go. It's that unflappability that I remember most about him, he had total respect for the animals and kept a cool head no matter what they threw at him.

The Irwins once did a tour of their zoo and showed off some of the non-reptilian animals. When they got to the ocelot enclosure he told the crew that they actually purr. So the soundman stuck his boom into the enclosure to try to get it on audio and the ocelot immediately snatched the fuzzy cover off the mic and ran away like it was his trophy. The sound man said he needed it back. Steve just said, âoh, no, thatâs his now.â

Todayâs generation will never understand the power that man had on captivating the world, how truly passionate he was for conservation and what a badass he was. Weather is was him ripping through the Australian Outback on his little dirtbike and jumping off to catch Goanna monitors or him gently helping elderly people remove brown snakes from the house. Some of my favorites where his top 10 deadliest specials, I really love the earlier episodes too. Steve Irwin is one of the single biggest reasons the reptile trade is where itâs at today. Some people may think thatâs a bad thing but itâs not. The more diversity of species we have in captivity means the more that can be saved from extinction. The more captive bread animals we have the less poachers will remove from the wild aswell since they wonât be so valued.

fav mem of steve was when he was in some backwoods area full of salt water crocs...he goes on about how the crocs just lie and wait on the bottom of the river bed waiting to lunge and drag prey down to their death...he then screams about some lizard or snake, runs full tilt through the area he just got telling you how dangerous it was to catch some lizard...that was steve in a nut shell

My favorites are his early years with Terri shooting the Crocodile Hunter because Terri was so clearly just there supporting him in those days, and as a child with parents who hated eachother, I always thought that was just so beautiful. Flash forward to now and she's running the show behind the scenes and the kids are killing it in their own right and THAT is beautiful. That's my favorite

I was a senior in highschool when Steve Irwin passed and I was devastated, because he had been my hero my whole childhood.
As for my favorite memory, has to be a quote he once said that stuck with me since I heard it as a kid. "Knowledge is the best way to combat fear. If you're scared about an animal, learn more and you'll learn that they are not so bad."
That naturally got me through so much.

I know it's strange because I never met Steve, but he was sort of a father figure to me as far as influence goes. My dad left when I was 7. I watched sooo much animal planet, saw his movies, etc. It was an escape, and he was a role model of sorts.
He gave me a love and respect for animals that sparked life long vegetarianism! I was, and still am, fascinated with our planet because of his enthusiasm and genuine soul. His obvious love and involvement with his family was such a relief from my day to day life as a kiddo.
Rest easy, Steve â¤

I was thinking of this yesterday. I used to wake up every Saturday morning and watch him. I was so young back then. Such a huge influence on my respect for animals. I think the rippled through alot of others too.
I think it's hard to pin down one single moment. I always loved how he told stories of him and his dad going out and doing things. I loved when he took care of the HUGE crocs in his zoo. Always beautiful and kind to them. ⤠miss him too and so happy his family is well.

I vividly remember the day Steve died. I was 10 years old and I was playing with my geckos downstairs, my mom called me upstairs and told me that Steve died, you canât even imagine how upset I got. He was truly one of my first heroes, the person that sparked my love for wildlife and nature along with people like Jeff Corwin, David Attenborough, and Jane Goodall.
