Agreed. My hair isn’t just one type, it’s a mix of 2-3 curl types, one side at the front is curlier, and my bangs are looser and I hate on it so much. I get told my hair is just wavy but my right side, underneath, and back is denser, thicker, and curly, but my wavy bits hide them. It feels alienating sometimes when I call it wavy I’m told no it’s curly. But if I say it’s curly, I’m told it’s wavy. I’m basically a pick and mix, or between types or I don’t know, broader spectrum curly? I dunno. I agree ALL curls are beautiful, unique and equally precious, treasure. The reason I learnt about curls was when black women helped me, told me to try different products. I then clicked, and later found the curly movement. I’m autistic and it’s now a special interest, I love learning about other textures. When friends ask for help, I can then help direct them. And of course having a lot of different curlies, to follow gives you a lot of different views and experiences. It’s helped me on my decolonisation, anti racism journey. For that I am grateful, and feel blessed that people helped me embrace myself. My ambition now is to make the curly hair world better to navigate as a disabled person. A lot of the techniques are difficult for my hand issues and fatigue. I am working on techniques and I review products I buy from my disabilities perspective. I have plans and drawings for adapted hair tools, as many aren’t made for curly, waves, or coily textures, there are plenty of us who would benefit from curly friendly tools. Anyway I’ll shh now.
