Anyway, recently I learned some of the Sicilian language and then went to Sicily and tried to use it there and it was pretty hilarious. On the beautiful island of Sicily people speak Italian but also the related language of Sicilian, which has a bunch of sub-dialects, and so I tried learning the Palermitan dialect which is spoken in the city of Palermo, and then I went to Palermo to try it out on the locals and because most people here speak this language only with family and friends and not in public they were quite surprised to see me speaking. Furthermore I feel like the people who taught me this language were messing with me because I unintentionally ended up learning the slangiest, dirtiest version of this language I could, and so it sparked all kinds of interesting reactions.

My Sicilian grandmother always said that she didn't speak Italian, only Sicilian. When we traveled to Sicily to visit relatives, everyone was surprised that this "American woman" could speak Sicilian so well.

I took the same trip 25 years ago. An italiana caught my eye, so I went back a few times. She now lives here in the States, we have 3 girls and have been married for over 20 years. One of those women will grab you brother so be careful.😂 Great video

I find it fascinating that the regionalism of Italian culture still runs so strong. Whilst someone else refers to them as Italian, they'd refer to themselves as "insert region". Goes all the way back to Roman times and it's fascinating its still evident today
