Another Doctor Attacked | When Will the Madness End?

It's heartbreaking to see Dr. Balaji Jagannath, a respected oncologist in Chennai, being brutally stabbed by a patient's son for the treatment given to his mother, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in an advanced stage. The doctor is now fighting for his life in the ICU!

It's unacceptable that doctors, who dedicate our lives to saving others, are targeted this way.

I'm pleading for better protection and safer infrastructure for all the doctors and hospitals across the globe. Enough is enough!

Patient’s family not accepting the natural course of the disease is due to lack of trust in the doctors. If we do not fix this, it is just a start of a huge disaster. We should all work together and not doubt each other as doctor Patient relationship is much more important than the actual treatment process.

Dr.Pal, even my mom was suffering with breast cancer stage 4, many chemo and radiotherapy everything was given but the disease affected her whole body including her brain...so we understood her lifetime is very very short but the way government hospital doctor conclude this was a very rude and showing very negative attitude on the patient and attender. On the patient's face he was saying you are going to die within a month so dont come here again and waste my time. You know how badly these words broken my mom and me...even i requested him stop talking like this but he was even more rude with me too... Being a 25 years girl and knowing that my mom is going to die soon and the doctor himself saying it rudely imagine doctors words hurts more than disease.

What this guy did was absolutely wrong but at the same time goverment hospital doctors also should try to be polite with the patient and their attender. They think like patients are the begger and treating them in a worst way. I personally experienced it and saw many people mentally affected because the doctor's rude behaviour.

Government doctors and other staffs also should change their rude behaviour towards patient and attenders in India

In one of the patient interviews, she said that she was in 2nd stage and Sir I am your follower, with all due respect, just like other professions, the doctor profession also has some worst people, even though it's hard to accept it as a doctor, it's the truth sir.

In government hospitals, doctors dont give thier 100% in treating their patients. They behave rude and negligent and dont rush when their is an emergency. I think in government hospitals, rules should be strict for doctors too.
Not degrading any doc but telling the truth.

I delivered my daughter in a government hospital and I have seen how they behave to patients. Government servants are so arrogant and they behave as though they are paying from their pocket to treat the patients.

Edit: people who ask me again and again , I am not justifying stabbing. For the doctor it is physical pain. For the youngster who did it, his whole life is gone forever.

This is a larger issue and not just a random attack. Violence against a doctor is wrong but in general the way patients get treated in a govt hospital is pathetic just because they are poor. A private hospital doctor would behave in a different manner. Doctors deserve respect and safety and so does every patient and their family.

Dear Doctor, I am not supporting what this son has done, but the hospital industry in India is totally commercialized and it's about money, no empathy for the patient and family, it's only about money when it comes to hospital treatment. We need to budget down the treatment expenses. No commercialisation.

Dr.. Pal is speaking like a Indian Railways mazdur union leader.. The railway staff including RPF are called public servants.. But hardly do they serve the public with due respect.. One aspect is heavy price for medical education which makes Doctor's profession available for sale.. If one wants to earn name and fame including profit.. The nobility of the proffession should be upheld.. Thankyou..

How do we know how the doctor treated the patient and family?
Attitude is important. Kindwords and caring is important. The family can understand the patient's situation better if treated kindly.

My dad was hospitalized in coimbatore govt hospital due to accident and got severe head injury. Doctor has to take him for ct scan. I can't believe govt hospital CT scan was not working due to lack of power from morning 8 to evening 6 and all patients including critical patients has to wait. I called TNEB he asked me what was the service connection number. Lift also not worked. I was seeing handicapped patients walking on the ramp with the help of stick. Anyhow my father passed away. I can see doctors and management negligence in everything. I have no idea how average people ask questions to doctors? Who will clarify them ? They simply say working on it but no use. Also most of the listed hospitals don't even accept pm insurance. They know Poor people can't ask any questions.

The main thing is Dr’s attitude here and the way he treated the pt. It’s becomes the responsibility of the DR to clearly explain the condition and the course of treatment. Most of the Drs in India think they are VIPs as everyone stand and wait for them.

You are absolutely correct Dr.Pal.
No one should do such a atrocious thing to any human being.
Even I lost someone dear to me to a surgical error, due to that post surgery effects occured and that person is in no more.
They tired every evidently to hide what actually happened and it's concluded by saying some 1st year resident and intern mistake.
Due to these kind of things (where no action is being taken or held responsible) people are frustrated.
But still no frustration should turn into physical assault but due to some hospital politics and some bad doctors.
It exposes the entire community to vulnerability

Dear dr. Pal...not all doctors are good like you. I support you. We see many doctors are mere mortals falling prey to conflict of interest. Financial pressure is artificially self created by doctors on themself, which manifests as an excuse to do "" certain things"".

My mom was in the same stage a year ago, and now she is no longer with us. The doctors gave us false hope, saying she would be cured. My mom went through nearly 10 chemotherapy cycles, two rounds of radiation, and about five surgeries. They kept telling us that she would be saved. We believed them and spent nearly 40 lakh. She had worked hard for our family for almost 30 years, often eating late or with an empty stomach, but in the end, we lost everything. I trusted the doctors and never spoke to her about my future or my thoughts. Now, I regret not expressing my final words to her and receiving her blessings.
