Turkey has long been a valued member of NATO. However, Turkey no longer meets the prerequisites for NATO membership, such as democracy, the rule of law, etc. Erdogan is an autocrat. Turkey should clean up its act.

It would be nice if NATO membership contingent on having a democratic government. Membership should be suspended if they do not. Autocratic governments are not secure as a military ally.

The fact that Sweden is not a member is meaningless. They are integral to European defense and will fight alongside Finland and NATO should NATO be attacked. Further, should Sweden be attacked- and that is HIGHLY unlikely as they share no borders with a hostile power- then NATO will certainly come to their defense. As for the US, we have many critical non-NATO allies we would defend. Japan, Australia and most likely Taiwan are such examples. Sweden can be counted in that number regardless of their lack of official NATO membership
