My father had a whip with a leather cross on the end and when i forgot my prayer he would whip me with that thing until i bled , one time he found out that i stayed over at a friend's house and he was waiting me with a hot iron cross back at home, i ran and never came back.

the driving thing is the foot in the door for insane abuse. you are quite literally trapped unless you husband allows you to go somewhere, and being driven someplace often becomes a privilege that gets rescinded if you don’t behave perfectly. my grandfather used to openly berate my grandmother for being greedy because she asked to be driven to the library.

yeah I grew up in a church like this and there were girls who would work jobs but the money went straight to their parents bank account because “they could just ask their parents for anything they needed.”
And as a girl you were expected to live at home until you were CHOSEN by a man who would ask your fathers permission to court you (“dating” as a concept was considered sinful and irresponsible).
