โฌ๏ธ How I dealt with FULLNESS and WEIGHT GAIN in my ed recovery โฌ๏ธ
In recovery from a restrictive eating disorder, itโs pretty common for weight gain to be a puzzle piece not to be missed out on. But itโs a hard one (both physically and mentally!)
Many of my clients tell me that the discomfort of (over)fullness can feel triggering, and that it brings up thoughts of restriction and compensation ๐ฌ
So I recorded a 5K challenge video. (I am editing away as we speak ๐)
Some of the main take-aways I share in the video and that I want to share again here are that
๐ you donโt need to overcomplicate this: simple meals, convenience foods, small changesโฆ fine. This is what makes it sustainable.
โค๏ธ always ask yourself: what can I add to this meal? Does it lend itself to adding avocado, cheese, nuts, nut butters, sauces, dressing? These can all provide a little boost
๐ also be honest with yourself about the following too: is there anything youโre eating that could simply be replaced? Think low-fat options for full-fat, skimmed milk for whole, big salads for denser veggies, cooking with oil over water, etc.
๐ smoothies and drinks are your friend! During my recovery, I went through loads of multifruit juices, milkshakes, smoothies, Fortimels, milk, etc. Donโt make this harder than it already is
๐งก portion sizes matter. increase them
๐ plan in your distractions. If youโre anxious before a meal or struggling after, plan in any necessary activities or surround yourself with your support network. I suggest you work with a professional to draw up your own plan for this
๐ wear comfortable clothes. Things that donโt draw your attention to your body and allow you to live your life without getting sucked into a negative thought spiral
Remember: the discomfort is temporary. Recovery can be for life ๐๐ผ
What would you add to this list? ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐ฌ
๐ Head over to the YouTube channel and subscribe to be the first to catch the video once it goes up ๐ ๐ฅ
