A very talented actor whose private life found him distant and cold to his family yet also found him to look for roles with strong social messages The Grapes of Wrath, The Oxbow Incident, 12 Angree Men, Gideon's Trumpet and as mentioned On Golden Pond are all excellent examples. Not as well known perhaps is that he started out in theater on stage and had a long and very respected history and when he was offered the chance he eagerly accepted a stage production of Clarence Darrow For the Defense which l think can be found on YouTube and is another great example of a strong social message worth seeing.

Great actor above and beyond most actors. But as a man he was lacking. Especially in the areas of Family. Just not an opinion.
