I was going to become a professional musician but I became a dentist instead. But I have nice electric keyboard in my office and more pianos at home. I have lots of hobbies but piano is a big one

What I say is play for the love, don't play piano for money as it's a very bad approach to making money unless you're right up the top and if you are then you know who you are, the exception to the rule. Play for the love and for all the other wonderful things playing the piano brings. Yes you can even perform, and yes it won't make money unless you're right at the top but if you love it that is not an issue, you will find other ways to make money.

You actually just need two things: Performance skills and an audience. Both of these you can get without studying at a conservatory. In fact, studying music might distract you from gaining these things because you will have to pass difficult exams about things you do not need (and do not forget about student debts)
