Gotta face it: without James Paul McCartney, the Beatles would’ve been a cult band hovering on extinction before long. The others had their moments even alone but his unquestionable musical ability kept outdoing them aside from 1970 & late !980s into early next decade when George Harrison was king of the ex-Fabs or right after traitorous John Lennon was murdered. Here are Macca’s most charming pieces among so many possibilities. “When I’m 64” must’ve sounded old-fashioned upon release, let alone now. Tops less attractive “Martha my Dear”/”Maxwell…” by its very quaintness. Still, love how they left in his laugh during second verse of latter! During his underrated Seventies’ period two songs definitely come to mind: “Hot as Sun” from the debut and “You gave me the Answer” on Wings' excellent Venus and Mars album. Finally, 1989 saw the release of pretty bland Flowers in the Dirt, highlighted by a few minor hits like “Put it There.” No honourable mentions yet he usually gave the fans a relatively charming song every few years.
