This sounds like a fight that would most likely end pretty quickly. If we're talking about their strongest forms, then Asura wins hands down since the mantra reactor enables him to break his limiter and theoretically gain infinite power. Plus, his wrath would no longer be a danger to him. So unlimited wrath = unlimited power.
The strongest form for Kratos would most likely either be PoH or Norse Kratos, reason being is PoH was enough to contend against Zeus obviously the strongest Greek god...or was the strongest, and Norse because Kratos was most likely centuries old at the beginning of GoW 4, and Greek gods tend to get stronger the older they age. They're pretty much the Viltrumites before the Viltrumites.
Granted, Kratos does have some impressive feats, such as when he lifted Tyr's temple, which is the whole nine realms thing that people keep bringing up, though it's only really a bridge to the nine realms if I remember the context of the game correctly. He was also able to contend with the likes of Baldur, who's at the same power level as Thor, you know...the guy that knocked the World Serpant back through time? Both pretty much received an ass whooping by Kratos.
One could make the argument that Kratos needed Atreus's assistance, but considering how much stronger he was during the events of Ragnarok, Atreus didn't really have to be there since Kratos just solo'ed Thor. So theoretically, Kratos would've solo'ed Baldur anyway. It was even demonstrated at the beginning of the game when Kratos ended his first fight with Baldur by neutralizing him with a neck snap.
Plus, there's those realm tears that according to the source material, he kinda just...closes with his hands? I'll have to do more research on that.
Overall, Kratos has some pretty impressive feats.
All that being said, none of them are compared to what Asura has done.
He obliterated Wyzen, a planet-sized deity at his max power, with a single punch when all of his arms were destroyed.
He tanked a full-powered blast from the Brahmastra, basically the ultimate god weapon for the Seven Deities, that was meant to kill him, but in the end, it only just pissed him off even more.
He solo'ed Deus, who at the time was powered up by Mithra's mantra.
And of course, he killed Chakravartin, who's not just a god, but THE God of the Universe itself.
And he was knocked into his base form when he was doing so, pretty much insinuating that Asura killed him when he wasn't even at his 100% peak, meaning that he could possibly be thousands, possibly millions of times stronger than Chakravartin when he was in his final Creator form. Again, Asura's power with the mantra reactor basically had no limit.
tl;dr: The only thing Kratos has over Asura is his beard game. Other than that, Asura wins.

Asuras wrath was a great game. Really good presentation and the plot was something people can get into. The only issue was it never felt like a video game gameplay. It just needed more gameplay wise, but it had something. With more gameplay capcom would have had its own god of war game basically. The presentation of there characters and fights scenes were phenomenally, great display of what the characters can do and what they are.
