Hey everyone, hope this finds you all well on this Wednesday. I'll keep this description brief. Today's short features a band I remember not necessarily in my "wheelhouse", but I definitely dug their unique sound. Are they really New wave? I'm not sure. That feels like limiting them to one genre, which I don't think is possible, or fair for these guys. Whatever one wants to label them with, I have come to appreciate them way more in recent years and consider them a great American band. Formed in 1977 by vocalist Stan Ridgway and their late guitartist Marc Moreland (RIP) and would also soon include drummer Joe Nanini whom also passed at a relatively young age in 2000 (RIP). They remained relatively unknown (aside from an underground loyal following) in and around L.A. California, U.S.A. but soon would go on to have great success when this album dropped in '82.
Unfortunately, Wall Of Voodoo were a relatively short lived band. However, not before they created a fantastic EP in 1980 followed by at least two albums, arguable three or four very good (subjective of course...depends whom one asks) in - Dark Continent in 1981, this one - Call Of The West (1982) with the song heard here, "Mexican Radio", followed by Seven Days In Sammystown in 1985...albeit without the distinct vocals of Stan Ridgeway in favour of the new guy, Andy Prieboy. Still a good album imho. And then a final studio lp, Happy Planet in 1987.
