I was a contractor for a company for a while. The owner would call me at all kinds of hours to run things by me. When I turned in my time sheet, I reflected these calls. One was on Christmas Day, so I charged time and a half. She had fits, until I explained that I was an independent contractor on an hourly basis. The outside hours calls stopped.

A retired SVP banker here. Every HR department I ever had to deal with had people who sounded and took just these type of positions with double or confusing standards. Many times, I had to intervene to protect my team from HR. HR was the "wokeness" enforcers. "Team player" is their catch-all reason for any crazy position they take. Veronica responded to that statement perfectly.

Remember, HR is not there to protect you. They are not your friend. They are there to protect the company. ALWAYS be on your guard in dealing with them.
