For anyone unaware, Norway's mentality is: prison is about rehabilitation, not about punishment. If you put people in cells and treat them like animals, they're not gonna get any better, but if you actually give them decent living conditions and a therapist (iirc) to actually help them sort out their issues, they're gonna be much better citizens when they step out.

I honestly 100% agree with that way more, even if it does sound really wrong that a prison is such a good place to be in. It's counterintuitive, but it's effective

Norway also extends prison sentences to those who are deemed to have not rehabilitated and/or still pose a risk so they can keep serious criminals off the street whilst addressing those who are able to change

Also fun fact: In Germany, escaping prison is not a crime as long as you don't commit other crimes while you escape.
Clocking a guard over the head and breaking down a door would add time to your sentence once you're caught again, walking out the back door because someone accidentally left it open or climbing a fence would not add time - although you would of course still be incarcerated again for your initial crimes.
This is because the German constitution acknowledges that 'being free is a basic human urge' and therefore cannot be punishable.

While Norway seems like an amazing place to be incarcerated, I saw an interview on an inmate there, and I quote "Prison is more mental than physical. I'm physically comfortable, but I'm also physically and mentally restrained."

The common factor in all three countries is the lack of freedom. That's gotta be a frustrating situation; no matter how comfortable or uncomfortable it is, if you don't wanna be there you don't have the freedom to leave.

Whilst most think Norway’s system doesn’t work, Norway is one of the safest countries in the world and Norway has the lowest reoffend rate in the world. Their system genuinely works and as a result this same approach has been adopted by neighbouring nordic countries Denmark, Sweden, and Finland

So basically in Norway they give you a private place rent-free with free food.
And friends and family can’t visit more than 3 times a week?
That sounds like heaven for an introvert.

Something people seem to forget in Norway is that there standard of living is just better. There prison sounds chill to us but life outside is just as good if not better, so there's really no incentive to get arrested on purpose.
