He was born in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. The evil king Kamsa ruled Mathura. The day Devaki and Vasudeva got married, a voice from the sky forecasted that Devaki’s eighth son would end Kansa’s rule and kill him. He imprisoned his sister Devaki and her husband. Kansa killed their first seven children. Before the eighth child’s birth, Lord Vishnu appeared to the couple, promising to incarnate as their son and end Kamsa’s dictatorship. When Lord Krishna was born, Vasudeva found himself magically freed from prison. He took the baby to a safe house in Gokul, swapping him with a newborn girl. When Kamsa tried to kill this girl, she transformed into the goddess Yogamaya and warned him that his killer was already born. Lord Krishna grew up in Gokul, became a skilled musician, and eventually returned to Mathura to kill Kansa and restore Dharma.
