Situated in the historic county of Brecknockshire, Pen y Fan is a pinnacle of natural beauty now within the administrative area of Powys. Its twin summits, Pen y Fan and Corn Du, once known as Cadair Arthur or 'Arthur's Seat,' stand proudly at 873 meters (2,864 ft).

Owned by the National Trust, the mountain faces challenges from erosion due to its popularity among walkers. The military utilizes Pen y Fan as part of the selection process for the UK's Special Forces personnel. In a poignant note, three soldiers lost their lives in July 2013 during a test march called Point-to-Point while undergoing Special Air Service selection.
