There is certainty in playing from the back. You have controlled possession. You play it high and long you have a duel for the ball and likely a fight for second balls. Ideally you would have your best players in possession as early as possible but then that would be easy and defenders would be redundant 😃

Id love a rule change to where goal kicks have to cross the half way line. Passing from the back clearly protects the bigger clubs dominance in the game. They changed the rule to where defenders can now receive a goal kick inside the box and now most games are boring

It's football snobbery. Pep does it, so everyone does it now. I'm not against it, just not all of the time. When it works well, it obviously looks great, but on so many occasions teams end up playing themselves into trouble and losing/conceding possession in a very dangerous area of the field or just end up having to pump it forwards aimlessly or out of play.
The top players and teams obviously do it far better. I think variation and just mixing it up is a much better way of playing. Just like the good old days.

It’s solely to not give away possession from a long ball that will be a 50/50header and likely give ball back to opposition . Centre backs usually win header duels with strikers.
