We need one of those ships that clean up the ocean in space.

We can sent up a satellite that is a powerful electro magnet. We have it orbit thru the debris field. It pulls in the metal around it. When it gets heavy enough it falls from orbit. It use jets of air to guide it to splash down in the ocean or an unpopulated area. If this works repeat as needed.

If everything is moving 18,000 kph then aren't they barely moving in relation to each other?

One of two thing can happen, either they are already headed towards us or away.

rockets going up? We could become trapped on earth, no more space stuff. Maybe it will just form a ring and we can jump out from the poles?

Will someone smarter than me please explain what Tyson just said and is there any way to speed the process up a little?

How many tons does 7000 satellites make?
Weight shaded from earth.
No wonder time flies!

I've heard Dr. deGrasse Tyson say in the past that it takes 17,500 MPH for an object to stay in a stable orbit. Since the satellites are going faster, at 18,000 mph, they will start climbing and clean themselves up.

I suspect that this is 100% of low earth orbit satellites. What you're describing wouldn't effect 100% of orbiting satellites, just the layer where most of them are. Feels like you'll still have all of the major communications and all of the GPS satellites. How long would it take for the debris fields to deteriorate?

Satellite should have a huge bouncy ball around them

Its very unlikely. The average distance between satellites is 45 miles. Thays a big distance to have an accidental crash.

When the governments of the of each country decide that a clean-up is needed. Who's going to pay for it? Taxpayers most likely.
