As a local native to a beach tourist state...THAT would do absolutely NOTHING.
They'd steal the whole orange thing that's supposedly saving your items and crack it open with a hammer or just smash on cement. Stop assuming theives are stupid. It's in the sand.. it isn't welded to nothing and isn't too heavy to steal... theives see this they'll call you stupid π

I use a lock box with a thick cable and a gnarly lock and ask the life gaurd if you can lock it to the metal frame of the life gaurd stand. Ive never had them say no, because they hate theives. Use water proof keys with a strong stainless steel clip to lock in you surf shorts pocket.
