Gigafactory Volkswagen Roadmap: Volkswagen Group Releases Roadmap to Increase the Efficiency of Electric Vehicle Batteries. Volkswagen presents technology roadmap for batteries and charging up to 2030 | 6 giga factories will production capacity of 240 GWh
The Volkswagen Group recently has presented its new technology roadmap in order to increase the efficiency of electric vehicle batteries along with their charging time. This comes straight from Volkswagen with the aim and goal of significantly increasing the choice of sustainable transport by FY’2030.
The Volkswagen also aims to secure a top place in the supply of battery cells beyond 2025 alongside by continuously focusing on improving its electric vehicle batteries efficiency.
The Volkswagen would like to achieve this by establishing 6 giga factories across the Europe which aims to have a total production capacity of 240 GWh.
Along with this the Volkswagen also aims to expand its global presence by bringing the technology of public fast-charging network co-operations which have been agreed in Europe with well-known energy offering companies such as BP (UK), Iberdrola (Spain) and Enel (Italy).
“E-mobility has become core business for us. We are now systematically integrating additional stages in the value chain. We secure a long-term pole position in the race for the best battery and best customer experience in the age of zero-emission mobility”, said by Herbert Diess, Chairman of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen Group.
According to reports, the newly established factories expected to produce cells with a total energy generation of value 240 GWh per year, once they are completed setting up. To make this happen, the Volkswagen has decided to setup its fully operated first two factories in Swedish City of Skelleftea and Salzgitter.
As the demand for the EV batteries has already started, the Volkswagen has made decision to refocus its last years plan which was connected to cell production and concentrate production of its premium cells in its Swedish giga factory, "Northvolt Ett" in Skelleftea which is in collaboration with Northvolt.
Thanks to the quick decisions and responses, that the production of these premium cells by VW is all set to commence in the year 2023 and which will be completely expanded in increments for an annual capacity of 40 GWh.
The gig factory in Salzgitter which is operated by Volkswagen will produce unified cell from 2025 which will be for high volume segment with high level innovations in various categories. This factory is also planned for 40 GWh production capacity.
VW will focus on renewable energy sources for electricity to power both of its giga factories. With this the Volkswagen will completely focus on the public fast-charging network points in Europe by 2025 which will about 18,000.
Key Highlights:
