What they really need is a 3rd (?) and/or 4th shipyard and possibly a 3rd shipbuilder as big as Huntington Ingalls and Bath Iron Works that do the same work to handle the load.

In commercial construction not only is a cash bond required for top tier projects but a performance agreement is part of the contract. If a Project is not delivered to the owners by the General Contractor, the GC goes into a Penalty for tens of thousands of dollars a day for everyday the Project is not successfully delivered on time. The entire Federal Government has become completely corrupt.

This doesn't even address the issue of repair. While new construction is nice. The maintenance backlog is years behind schedule.

This is unacceptable... with technology and experience things should get faster and easier... we have been building carriers for around 100 years now... it should essentially be like stacking Lincoln Logs at this point.. (yes I know there are advances amd new tech in each one) but the basics of the hull, etc are essentially very similar amd with new modular construction techniques this should go very smoothly.... how do they take 10 YEARS now?!?!?!

In the 1980s carrier building was faster when they paid by what you did - now pay is by hours attended -

Capital ship construction delays are hardly new, and there are shipyard constraints. The costs of these things are ruinous. Defense spending as a whole is a primary reason for our national debt. I'm not sure it makes sense to argue for additional shipyard capacity - unless, of course, we're planning on joining other mercantile countries with a subsidized merchant marine. See "ruinous cost, above.

This makes me so very, very mad.
Being an old man I remember the idea that the U.S. SHOULD HAVE a 600 ship Navy.
They are not even going to PRETEND to get up to 300.... **sigh**
Peaceful Skies.

Only in the United States can being late mean more money to the builder.
Forgot months, lets talk years.

Are carriers even a viable option in today's economical low costs mass drone warfare ?

What can be expected when outside machinists have 3" nails sitting on a bucket leaning against the bulkhead?
