Stephen's Tower is the bell tower of the former church dedicated to "Saint King Stephen of Baia Mare. The tower is located between Crișan and 1 Mai streets, in close proximity to Liberty Square - Central Square (Circulus fori) - of the old city. It was built in the 15th century.

The first documentary attestation of the "St. Stephen" church dates from 1347, but the construction was officially inaugurated only in 1387. The tower, built of massive stone, was erected at the initiative of Prince John of Hunedoara, to mark the victory at Ialomița (1442) against the ottomans. The construction of the tower began after 1446, but it was completed only in 1468, under the reign of Matia Corvinul.
In 1619, the upper part is rebuilt, having the shape of a pyramid with a square base, with four turrets and is equipped with bells. Nine years later a moon clock is installed. Repeatedly affected by lightning and fires, the two buildings undergo several capital repairs, but in 1763 only the tower is restored. On this occasion, the upper part porch is built.

The entrance to the tower is through the door on the south. The first level is reached by a spiral stone staircase. From here to the gazebo, access is via wooden stairs. The building measures about 50 meters and, from the porch, offers a special panorama of the entire city.
