Um.. it was the Iroquois who committed the massacre.
I'm descended from the Andre family, through their surviving daughter. She must have been traumatized after watching her parents be flayed, tortured and burned, then her 2 young siblings being tossed into the fire alive, then to be eaten after their flesh was cooked. Can you just imagine experiencing that?
5 years later they were still finding bodies of some of the victims.

Denonville’s treachery:
By using the Mohawks of Kahnawá:ke to request negotiations with Haudenosaunee Chiefs, the governor was able to capture 50-60 people many Chiefs of the Seneca and Onondaga. Seneca territory was invaded and many villages burned. Around 16 of the chiefs were sent to France as Galley slaves and others were rotting in prisons. In response the Haudenosaunee attacked Forts Frontenac and Chambly then Lachine. The 1500 warriors were mainly Seneca and Onondaga, but it is possible that some Mohawks participated. The Mohawks of Kahnawá:ke fled into Montreal to avoid retaliation until the misunderstanding could be cleared up.
