We did not read the same books. Harry was one of the kindest people to Neville. First book, he gives Neville the courage to stand up against Malfoy and then later on against the Golden Trio. Neville isn’t a big character in Books 2 & 3 but he and Harry are clearly friends. In the fourth book, Harry literally states that he hopes that Crouch Jr. suffered for what he did to Neville’s parents. In the fifth book, he literally trains him. And recognizes Neville’s talent. He also trusts Neville as Neville is the main one with him in the Ministry. Same goes for Book 6. And Harry asks Neville to kill Nagini before he goes off to sacrifice himself. Wtf?

Harry wasn't that close to Neville before the 5th book anyways so it wouldn't make sense if they were too close

Its a stretch to put every struggle a person has on their friends no matter how popular they are

Harry was a prisoner in his life, only freed by those who were really closest to him. I don't ever remember Neville ever sending Harry a single letter while he was imprisoned in his uncle and Aunts home. Neville had a loving home as his grandmother loved his and his family.

Lavender might have been brave, but she was not complex. Harry's interactions with others is an accurate portrayal of people who grew up in abuse and abandoned by adults to stoke their own egos.

The one thing I wish the new show will change from the books is Nevilles character, or rather have him be more of a presence in the first books

Yes for the first one no to the 2nd Harry and Neville weren't that close especially I. The early days he was friends with him and other but they weren't super close unlike Ron and Hermione.

Harry, Neville and Susan. I think these characters had too much in common. They all lost their parents due to the action of Death Eaters. For that reason they didn't want too much to do with each other.

I think this examination of Neville and Harry’s friend is absurd. Nothing in the books indicated they were the closest of friends. They were friends. Not brothers like Harry and Ron and Hermione. THEY were the closest of friends. Neville and Harry didn’t become closer until they got older. When Harry learned Neville missed becoming the chosen one only because Voldemort chose to kill Harry that fateful night. Instead of Neville.

Just because there were together in gryfindor doesn’t mean they must be friends. And harry was a friend to Neville but his best friends are Ron and hermione. Like the author of that vid weren’t a perfect friend to each of your classmates.

He wasn’t really close, but he asked what when they were acquitted he actually tried to get Nevels memory ball back from Jacob Malfoy

One thing that always goes with me is that Neville could've been the boy Voldemort would've gone after. He wasn't, still lost his parents, and while Harry is glorified, Neville is often casted aside.
But I wouldn't go as far as saying Harry was a bad friend to him. They just weren't as close as Harry was with Ron and Hermione (And movies/books focused on their friendship for the most part). But from the small interactions they had, Harry was nice to him: Encouraging Neville to stand up for himself, listening to him when he revealed what happened to his parents, getting him rememball back from Malfoy, counting on him to kill Nagini when all went down. I think they were fine.
