A lot of people think there are wooden blocks in them-likely because of the sound they make clopping on the floor and how hard they feel, but they really are not.

What's inside the box? Pain.

I never knew I needed this perspective 😦 I feel like one of those cats in the videos where the owners show them parts of the house they’ve never seen before like the top of the fridge

I totally thought there was a wooden block as a kid.. so good you’ve educated folks with this post. Ballet is so beautiful 💛

Some of my old pointe shoes had little gel pads glued in to the bottom of the box to make it more comfortable to go en pointe, then they stopped including it. Now if you want your shoes with the gel pads you have to buy them separately and glue them in yourself!

Do you feel all of your weight on your big toe when you go on pointe or does the shoe help to distribute your weight to other parts of the foot? I'm curious how similar going on pointe in shoe vs out out of a shoe is.

personally i wear bloch and some of them have a little squishy pillow-like padding on the platform! it’s very easy to remove if you want to though (i do remove them cause they annoy me) but you can also glue them back on at any time

Send a couple pairs of those to that bloke in the UK who makes the denim sunglasses (if he’s still about) , see if you can get him to make a par of sunglasses for you with the pointe shoes.

I feel that my shoes distributed my weight quite a bit, so I do not feel like all the weight was taken by the toes, only a little, the rest goes through to box into the floor so the widest part around the foot-like a ring same level as the ball joint actually takes almost all my weight. The pain in the toes comes more from the friction as your feet would move up and down as you dance and go up en pointe and back down many, many times, rather than from bearing my weight.

I used to think there must be something inside (padding or a block or something) because people’s feet always look so long in point shoes. But the extra length must be an illusion created by the shape of the shoe and the fact that my brain is used how long feet look on tiptoe.

They dont have wooden blocks theyre pretty much all paper mache type stuff in the end. Obviously not craft paper mache but its similar in the way it works

For a while I thought there was a good maybe 1/2-3/4" chunk of material and paste at the bottom (though I didn't think the toes were scrunched or that there was any wood) and when I realized it's not much thicker at all, I was like damn when they mean feel the floor they mean it 100% literally

Thank you for sharing this, I had no idea. Wow! Ballerinas are so strong especially in their feet. I remember just walking so much yesterday because we had some shopping done and when I got home my feet and legs were already killing me. Imagine having the routines by ballerinas, kudos Lori for your core, strength and stamina! 😊
