This is great as long as you never sell your home. Ran into a project like this doing demo, let’s just say that the previous owners are being sued for doing this because absolutely none of it was done to code. Best to run furring strips and do it PROPERLY.
Edit: the job I speak of happened in Clearwater Florida, I’m aware codes are different by state and county
