I've worked in the tech industry long enough to see that we're experiencing the modern form of divine right of kings. What I mean is that success is often based on a position held and not actual achievements. Growing up in an affluent community is a huge advantage because they acquire an inflated sense of self-confidence, learn to talk the talk and have stronger relatability to their peers. It's not just billionaires who enjoy this advantage; I've seen it extend all the way down to the upper-middle class.
It's one of the big reasons why these people are able to secure funding for obviously bad ideas or get a nice head start on their careers. They enjoy a level of inherent trust they don't deserve. Some of them prove to be good at their jobs, but at no higher rate than the general public. It's just that the rest of us have to work harder and longer to demonstrate our worth.

Hyperloops will NEVER work because
-building a giant vacuum chamber tunnel that people can get in and out of quickly is borderline impossible
-the infrastructure cost will never beat traditional rail as the trains can simply be made more aerodynamic for a much lower cost and almost the same benefit
-its extremely easy to vandalize a giant vacuum tube, just drill a hole into it and the entire system collapses
-maglev and engine technology is still improving dramatically year after year meaning these hyperloops even if implemented will face extremely tough ongoing competition

Literally just helping to fund the bullet train from Las Vegas to LA to SF would be such a huge benefit to letting people travel conveniently and ship goods around and keep it off the freeways. You don't have to get fancy with it, just have to cut through the miles and miles of government red tape and payoffs needed to get the job done..
Billionaires could do so much to make the world a better place, but nooo they gotta have their special pet project that dead-ends after wasting hundreds of millions of dollars with nothing to show for it...

Surely it’s better to have a commercial line anyways? You can do way more cargo in way less space, than you can with a passenger line. Get it producing revenue, and once profitable you can expand once the technology is more developed. Not a big problem if sometimes there’s pressure leaks in a cargo line. Bigger problem if there’s people in there
