During a screening in Rotterdam, Peter was asked - what about just rewilding all the land used for raising livestock? Wouldn’t that be best for the environment?

We love the biodiversity of forests as much as anyone - and we’re HUGE fans of national parks - but livestock provide a living for farmers all around the globe.

For the sake of our rural communities and ecosystems, we want as much of that livestock production to occur using tools like AMP grazing focused on restoring soil health and rebuilding rural communities.

What does biodiverse land mean to you?

AMP grazing IS rewilding the land! That's the whole point, to mimic wild ruminant grazing patterns of prairies, savannahs and meadows. Her question also implies that everything was forest, which it wasn't. Plus, without fire, that forest will never be anything close to "rewilded"

Good question, even better answer. We have national and state forests/parks that would fall into this category for her.

There was another video on this channel I think where a rancher compared one paddock that was left to re-wild to the rest of his grazed paddocks. They took biodiversity measurements/observations and found the grazed paddocks were more biodiverse than the one left alone.

Does anyone know where the full length video is??

I think her question was more about comparing forest vs prairie carbon sequestration and I believe prairie beats forest due to the faster life cycles of forage.

Rewilding is a man made environment like every other.
It's a big thing in the UK but imo regenerative grazing is a much better approach, again imo in the UK it's a stick to depopulate rural areas and take land out of food production.

It's also not about the animals you see but especially about the animals you do not see.

Interesting question. On a YT short, Alan Williams was listening to the famous writer discuss leaving all animals off for a long period of time, and the biodiversity dropped significantly. The pasture where the animals were had more biodiversity. Answering this question takes more time and detail. A lot of people think many farmers can not grasp the nuances of AMP grazing. Then we get back to "it doesn't work" or "you aren't doing it right" debate. All the best. It's the future.

Sounds like the same mentality used against controlled burns for habitat management. "Your idea works, buuutt..."

If you let land just go wild, it's literally abandoned land. You get more biodiversity from animal use as well.

His response was "incurious, aggressive response" how do figure?
He's been studying this subject for a while, i think he has a clue
Not to mention in order for the ground to be rewild ... you have to have animal's, insects, etc on it. 😮
What these farmer's are doing now .... IS bringing back the diversity of how it once was with bison roaming free, plus elk, deer, antelope, etc.
There are some bison ranchers doing the same thing & have improved or improving their soil, plus have native grasses.
Check out Joel Salitin & Alan Savory

If you want to go wild, you're just going to have to start making everything this point forward, preserve

Is it “rewilding” or would it just be abandoned?

It isn't rewilding OR regenerative... It's rewilding AND regenerative.
