Iā€™m an ambulatory wheelchair user as well. Iā€™m still learning that itā€™s ok to use my chair in public even though people have seen me walking ā€˜perfectly fine with my leg braceā€™. (I have CRPS and also use a Spinal Cord Stimulator)

These videos are so, so helpful to me. I'm going to be an ambulatory wheelchair user very soon. For now I've got a rollator because I've got chronic fatigue from Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and POTS but my needs for longer trips require something a bit more what with pain and fatigue.

THANK YOU.
Thank you so much for taking the time to explain things so clearly.
My support worker is working with me and my occupational therapist about choosing a wheelchair suitable for me.

Amen girl!!! thank you for advocating this!! i have an invisible disability called POTS. this caused me to get tired very easily and get dizzy and have cognitive function decline the more i stand and walk. my insurance doesn't currently accept my need for a custom wheelchair, they will only provide me with a hospital grade chair. I'm currently working on getting myself a chair that i can use independently.

She's so pretty ā¤ What a great woman! Everything you say makes sense. I'd prefer to drive than walk.

This video explains it so well. I'm very bad at explaining some things and showing staff/peers this video has really helped in the understanding department.

Being able to use my wheelchair is sometimes a lifesaver. Like yeah, I can walk long distances, but sometimes its too much.

I am capable of running, but sometimes I use a car because I want to travel further or faster than I can run, or because I want to save energy so I can work really hard at the gym and not get tired out running to and from the gym. No one has a problem with my use of a car despite my ability to run places.

So why the hell does this concept suddenly become so difficult for people to grasp as soon as its about a disabled person and their wheelchair? Just because someone can walk doesn't mean they are able to walk the distance they need to travel in a reasonable timeframe, and trying to walk it may leave them in such terrible pain or so exhausted they are not able to partake in the activity they travelled for. There's absolutely nothing wrong with anyone using a mobility aid to allow themselves to be more mobile.

As I said in another comment Iā€™m disabled too, but I used to teach people handling people, manual handling of children and young adults in schools. Part of what we taught was teaching the children to do what they could for their self esteem and dignity. Lifting a wheelchair into a car was taught to the adults, it was putting a picnic blanket folded over the boot/trunk so the car didnā€™t get scratched and it was a little easier to put the chair over the lip of the boot/trumk.
I have no idea if that would help you at all, but I have to tell you it or Iā€™d feel bad not to have said something that might or might not help you. You know you and what works.
