I really want to see the studies done on this. I havenât found them yet but they must exist. There has to be at least one instance of someone releasing a slide on an empty chamber 2,500 times right next to the same make and model gun releasing the slide and feeding a cartridge 2,500 times. The one with the empty chamber should have exponentially more wear to the point that it becomes unreliable. Why else would people be saying this? There MUST be a study because otherwise whatâs to say this isnât all horseshit? Show me the hard data because Iâm tired of debating cases of SchrĂśdingerâs fudd lore. I will not do the study myself because I have nothing to prove.

That is probably true on the 1911 because that link is a very delicate part compared to most other lockup systems in other guns. But then again, the 1911 had never been considered the most robust or durable of handguns. I believe the 92 had a similar issue.
Your locking block on any striker gun is what takes that force, against the barrel itself. What minimal amount of force additional that is applied because there's no round in the chamber will be negligible at best.
Let's be real. It's just a pet peeve and only that lol
