I play mobile games, my favorite thing about them is getting to make friends from all over the world. I’ve had the good fortune of getting to speak to people from multiple countries in the Middle East, one person in particular that taught me more about this war than any news program. He is a Palestinian, he’s actively raising money and hopes to some day participate in the battle for his Palestine. America was settled by people who left their land in hopes of freedom. I do not own land but even if I did whether I’m here or in another state as long as I have somewhere to be I’m happy. That’s not to say I wouldn’t defend America, but to me America is not one square foot of soil over another. It’s a land of the free. For this man Palestine is far more than a piece of soil. He described it to me as his peoples beloved grandma. She was kidnapped from them in the middle of the night. And there she remains a hostage of the enemy, forced into servitude. I was asked if I could sleep well at night knowing she was suffering and waiting for me to come save her. I think the most important thing I took from this conversation is that for the people involved this fight is far more than land. For this man he would not want to see his city fall but it could be rebuilt more beautiful than ever if only his people had it back because it’s the heart of the land that matters. If my grandma was taken and forced to serve another family I’d have something to say about it too. So regardless of whether what this young man believed is true, or even makes logical sense, I believe after speaking to him that they will never stop fighting to free Palestine. So any idea that involves just giving them some random piece of pretty land to appease them, is not going to work ever. We are involved in a war that is never going to end and only concerns us because at some point we decided it benefitted us.. and we just keep doubling down. Gonna have world war 3 and 100 years after those 2 people are still going to be fighting over that land.
