How to call your teachers in English: When to use Mr./Ms. etc., Professor, or Doctor. Keep in mind that we usually don’t call teachers β€œTeacher.”

-- Elementary/junior/high school: Mr. + last name for men, Ms. + last name for women (pronounced "Mizz")

If the teacher prefers the pronouns they/them, you can use the title Mx. pronounced "Mix"

For women, some people still use the titles Mrs. or Miss but these include reference to the person's marital status (Mrs. for married, Miss for unmarried)

These titles are not used alone. They're usually followed by the last name. In some school contexts, they are followed by the first name.

-- College/university: Professor

You can use Professor + last name or just "Professor" as in "Excuse me, Professor."

If your professor has a Ph.D, they may like to be called by "Doctor" + last name. Pay attention to how your instructor refers to themselves on the syllabus or on the first day of class.

What type of school do YOU go to? How do you address your teachers/professors?

Welcome back, professor! πŸ˜€
I see you’re already back at work. Does the fall semester in your area start earlier than it does in other parts of the US? I follow a bunch of people from different parts of the US and it’s still summer vacation for them there! Anyway, I’ve got a few ideas for you that I’m going to try and share over time, but not until you get back in the swing of things!
Good to see you, Jenna! I wish you a great semester ahead. πŸ™‚
