To much torque being made down low prolly. As a honda nut i see it happen to often. These smaller motors just cant take the torque you want an hope to make with them. Theres a reason the car came with a v8.

That fracture pattern looks like it's the result of a small crack or inclusion.
I bet if the bearings started to seize up (you reported some sort of oil pressure glitch, didn't you?) the crank started producing side forces on the rod, flexing it and rapidly accelerating crack propagation.

I'd assume rotating assembly parts for such a high stress engine would have been at least dye penetrant checked before assembly, right?
