I know it sounds comedic, but as an Australian spear fisherman that encounters a lot of sharks, I’ve been taught by the OG’s to go on the offensive with a white. Slowly make your way back to the boat but everytime it comes in for a sniff, charge it trying to poke at it with the spear. If you are moving towards them they usually won’t let you get within 2-3 metres and will circle out. This won’t work against a hungry 16ft+ tho, you are cooked either way 😵

Animal psychology is a fascinating thing.
I foolishly went hiking in mountain lion territory with no weapon. A young male tracked me for a few 100 yards, getting closer by the minute, before I decided to confront it.
I grabbed a large rock. Looked dead in its eye. Said nothing, made no noise, and just kept walking straight at it. I was crapping myself, but I stayed on course, and sure enough, it turned and ran when I was a few feet from it.

Interesting video! However, I think there's a mix-up when it comes to great white sharks. You mentioned that they eat each other in the womb, but that behavior (called intrauterine cannibalism) is specific to species like sand tiger sharks. Great white sharks are ovoviviparous, meaning their embryos hatch inside the mother and feed on yolk sacs or unfertilized eggs (oophagy), not their siblings. Nature is fascinating enough without needing extra drama! 😊 Just thought I'd clarify for accuracy

As someone who was “bumped” by a massive great white alone at night… you want to panic but the reality of death overcomes you and you become unrecognizably calm. Slowly leave the area and swim back to shore in a relaxed manner. Do not splash. Glance at shore, aim your arm and go underwater and swim. He’s watching you do it. When he sees this he realizes “ok, this isn’t food and it’s not a threat” and it will go on about its business. I’m alive able to type this out so it worked for me. 🤷♂️ Twas either a 17’ hammerhead or a massive (as big as they get) female great white as I was tracking them in the area. Don’t ask why I was in the water

It's hard to poke a great white in the eye if you're missing your arm!
