A faster and easier way to start currant bushes is to pull a branch down to the ground and put a rock on it. Have the rock several inches from the end of the branch. In a couple of months the branch will have started rooting so clip it off the main bush and move it to the desired location. I do that after the fruit is harvested if I want another plant. Or do it right into a pot if you plan on giving it away.

I found a blackcurrant bush growing in my compost heap after some pruning, potted it up and gave it to a friend. I found most of the prunings had started to root.

All I can say is β€œwow”. It blows my mind that the plant just grows roots like that. I’ve never actually tried growing from cuttings before, but it sounds like it’s pretty easy, the plant does all the work!

Please could someone tell me... Do you need to make the cuttings at a certain time of year or at a particular point of the branch? I would love to try this! Thank you. πŸ˜ƒ
