It's a very good idea to do these before Christmas because a lot of less fortunate parents go to the thrift stores to try to find toys and many don't get donated until after the holiday

One of my most humbling moments as a mom came from a toy purge - I think the kids were 4 &6. I told my kids about a group of scouts gathering toys for kids with no toys, then asked if we had any toys downstairs that we LIKED but didn't love. When they said yes, I asked them if we could go through the toys and find the like ones, so they could go to new homes that would LOVE them. We sorted into categories - stuffies, little toys, books, coloring stuff, etc. I got the ones I knew they played with all the time that (still haven't left and they're nearly teens) they loved. Then we counted how many there were - say 20 stuffies. I asked each kid to pick their favorite 5/ea, then we donated the rest. Because I chose to include the girls, it took a LOT longer, but it gave them more control over the process. I was constantly humbled by their generosity - they gave away so much more than I thought they would, and did it with such genuine joy, that I was in awe. ❀

Girl...the best part of toy purge video for me is actually getting to see what GETS PURGED!! πŸ˜… Bc it's the hardest part of decluttering toys when they play with everything 😭❀ Did you have no mercy

EVERYONE REMEMBER TO DONATE TO YOUR LOCAL STORES OR POST ON MARKETPLACE!
Don't throw away toys that are in good shape please!
We shop at local thrift stores looking for like new toys for our kids all the time and I search marketplace when they want something specific.
Less fortunate folks need those with privilege to donate what they would normally consider trash so we can feel blessed.

I was so relieved when my kids hit around 7 or 8 and no longer wanted tons of stuff and started fixating over one or two expensive things. My kids just had their birthday. All my daughter wanted was vintage star trek dolls.... thats it. They are the only toys she plays with now other than the enterprise ship sections she built out of boxes in her room. My son just wanted a scooter and some stuff for his bow because he's really into archery.

For Christmas my daughter only asked for metallic pink cowgirl boots and a star trek tricorder and phaser. My son hasn't asked for anything yet and is still thinking because they just had their birthday.

Less, but expensive is a phase im fine with. Better than more and cheaper.

I was purging old and broken toys the other day and found a big rock my daughter had in her room. I just sat on the closet floor and had a nice laugh.

I rarely find youtubers i can relate with but i feel it with you πŸ˜‚ especially the last bit about presents and kids wanting to play in dirt. I tell people they can buy my son whatever they want for xmas. It doesnt matter if its a toy/book/chocolates/sweets/art/whatever. I have just purged some stuff to donate but im really struggling to let go of those 'amazing toys' even though he never goes in his room to play

I think it's completely fine to ask grandparents and others to respect certain boundaries when gifting... we would already have drowned in plush toys otherwise πŸ˜‚
