We had a guy like this when I went through basic in the early 90s. His name was Franklin (I think) and was one of the few that was doing basic, and then going home to be in the reserves. So in his mind, making life harder on us made no difference because he would never see us again.

We went through basic and AIT, and as graduation approached, this cluster @#$% made the mistake of letting someone overhear that 15 members of his family were driving out from Oklahoma to Georgia to see him graduate. This put a plan into motion which was carried out to perfection.

The night before graduation when he hit the shower, his locker was raided for 2 items. His dress shoes and belt. We took said items and hid them inside a ventilation duct and waited for the fallout. Next morning as we are all preparing to head to formation for the march to the parade field, this privates is losing his mind. A complete mental break, tears, with full on hysterics. (I would like to think that 33 years later, those shoes and belt are still inside the duct in the E Co 1/50th latrine) Our drills while suppressing their obvious amusement informed Private Franklin that he would not be attending graduation because he would not be able to retrieve his missing uniform pieces in time.

When graduation was over and we were with our families, several of us looked into the stand and saw a group of very confused people which we all assumed were Franklin's family. What happened next was just the perfect ending. One of our drills approached his family and explained what had transpired. The expectation of anger or confusion was not met. Instead a man in his 40s started laughing uncontrollably. He then took his family and left the field. We found out from our drill sergeant, that Private Franklin no longer had a ride home. Yes people, his family up and left his ass in Georgia 😂
