How do you respond if someone tells you: Sell Me This Pen!

This is what I would do…

Take a picture of the pen and put it on your social media story with the caption…

If this one instrument could change the life of an underprivileged child by giving them an education of a lifetime, how much value would you attribute to it?

While people may respond with values and numbers…

You explain this to the interviewer…

There is a difference between Sales and Marketing.

Sales is done for high priced products, while Marketing is better suited for low priced ones.

Sales is the activity of spending time in listening to the needs and pain points of the prospect, and evaluating if your product can help meet that need.

It takes time and effort of skilled manpower, which is much costlier than the price of a pen.

Marketing is when you communicate the functional and emotional benefits of a product through mass media channels to invite inbound interest for whoever may need it.

While both functions are necessary in business…

asking someone to sell a pen to them is nothing short of an act of stupidity coupled with their innate need to belittle another.
